Beckoning Simon and the Maneki-neko
Simon says “why do you need that lucky charm when you have me?”
Small business owners like me can use all the luck we can get! I’ve placed it at the entrance to my studio door. In Japan, Maneki-neko figurines, literally beckoning cat, are thought to bring good luck and fortune to the owner. My ceramic cat was a gift from one of my Chinese homestay students, Jodie. It is also called the Chinese Lucky Cat, popular among Chinese merchants.
Here’s Simon’s imitation of the beckoning cat.
